Documentation 5 - Script writing and Mood Board
To better write a good story, I came back to the interview. I talked to several new dads about their postpartum experience, and adapted their real experience to the story. The interview stuck to the content I would put in the game(Click here to view more), and it is based on the scenes that I have an idea of writing. Then I started to write down the stories in Miro’s flowchart.
I used different shapes to represent different types of dialogues. Square represents narrations, round square represents dialogues and diamond represents choices. I also used different colors to represent different characters.
I wrote down the story, however, I found it has limited choices players could make. This would limit the interactive level of game experience, so I went back to the first scene I have done, and added some more choices as well as interactives in it.
Then I started to work on the rest of the scenes based on the interviewee’s stories.
I also started to create a mood board for the game. I know the tone would be family, positive, fun. However, I have two different moods for now. One is more interesting, playable and dynamic, the other is more realistic, soft and cozy.
Besides, I also search for several art styles that I may use to make the arts. One way to do it is to make a posterizing image. This would be an easier way to do it, but it would have problems like inconsistency stocking images. The other way is to trace and do my own art similar to the art style of “Bury me, my love”. It would be more unique but cost more time.
I am still exploring different styles, and hopefully I will have decided which direction I would go with. For now, I will focus more on the scripts and the interactives. I will put the scripts in the prototype, and I will come up with beta ver. next week so that I could start testing.
